Adopt a cause
Another way to help is raise society’s awareness on a specific cause of your interest, encouraging people to learn about it, be sensitive to it and motivated to help. To accomplish this task we recommend following these steps:
Learn
Do some research about the cause or problem you are interested in; for example, children living in the streets, environmental problems, education, or children’s undernourishment. Find out why it is an important problem, who are affected by it, and which institutions are working to solve the problem.
Understand
Understand the origin of the problem, the barriers to solve it, the different solution approaches and the consequences of not solving it. This will help you be more effective when reaching the next point.
Act
You can participate in an institution’s activities, by attending in discussion forums, writing a letter to your representatives asking them take specific actions, collaborating with your school or your children’s school with activities such as lectures, campaigns, or encouraging students’ projects about the topic, or you can start your own initiative. The goal is that more people are aware of the problem and participate in the solution.
